ALOPECIA AREATA
THEN
Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune skin disease, causing hair loss on the scalp, face and sometimes on other areas of the body. In 1998, as a 7th grader, I began to notice patches of bald spots on my head and was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata. For the past 20 years, I have had it on and off with much of that time being spent growing out my hair and covering up the patches. What I thought was a hinderence for me, actually helped me. I grew my hair out, it became my SIGNATURE LOOK, and in a sport where you are dying to be recruited and noticed, my hair complimented my game. It also helped that my mother was a hair dresser!!

NOW
Today, I face a different challenge. My alopecia has forced me to shave my head bald, I have also begun to lose my eyebrows. The obstacle of navigating a 'First Impression' as an entrepeneur with a bald head and no eyebrows is something that I find difficult.
I continually meet people with Alopecia and hope to do as much as I can to spread awareness and raise money. In 2014, I ran a clinic in which we raised over $1200 for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation. I am open to doing more fundraisers as well!
